Chartered Architectural Technologist (MCIAT)
Chartered Architectural Technologists (the art and science of designing buildings). Architecture is becoming increasingly advanced, and the role that Chartered Architectural Technologists play in protecting the lives of humans and the environmental impact to our Earth is constantly growing. While there will always be art involved in architecture – science is playing a bigger part. Chartered Architectural Technologists, MCIAT, are qualified to offer design services and manage projects from inception to completion. They lead the art & technological design of a project; forming the link between concept, innovation and realisation.
Chartered Architectural Technologists & Chartered Building Engineers;
* specialise in design, underpinned by building science, engineering and technology applied to architecture within projects, playing a pivotal role in project and design management;
* design and manage all project types from small scale to large commercial, industrial, residential and public projects; they range from being sole practitioners to working in multinational and multidisciplinary practices;
* work collaboratively with other professionals such as engineers and quantity surveyors and are recognised on a par with all Chartered professionals in the built environment sector; and
* hold a valued, respected and regulated professional qualification and protected designation, which is transferable and recognised across borders and can only be awarded by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists, whilst abiding by a set of professional ethics in the Institute’s Code of Professional Conduct.
‘Chartered Architectural Technologist’ is a protected title and is listed in the European Directive 2005/36/EC.
Only Chartered Members may use the suffix MCIAT and describe themselves as Chartered Architectural Technologists.

Chartered Building Engineer (C.Build E MCABE)
In Ireland and the United Kingdom, the title of "building engineer" is regulated by the CABE (Chartered Association of Building Engineers). The 'Chartered Association of Building Engineers' was founded as the 'Incorporated Association of Architects and Surveyors' (IAAS) in 1925 in London. The Incorporated Association of Architects and Surveyors became the 'Association of Building Engineers' (ABE) in 1993 and on obtaining its Royal Charter, became the 'Chartered Association of Building Engineers' (CABE) in 2014.
Chartered building engineer are recognised as being expert in the use of technology in the design, construction, assessment and maintenance of the built environment. Building engineers are concerned with the planning, design, construction, operation, renovation, and maintenance of buildings, as well as with their impacts on the surrounding environment. Chartered Building Engineers are involved within the design, planning, engineering, construction, legal compliance, fire safety, and maintenance of buildings. Their roles may vary from one practice to another. Building Engineers may offer specialised services within phases of the construction process or for different engineering aspects of the construction industry, such as fire safety, conservation, sustainability, planning or construction.
